March 2, 2017 — “Bryce Dallas Howard on ‘Jurassic World’ Sequel, Beyonce and Buying Off-the-Rack”

“Making a Jurassic film is challenging, exhilarating and most importantly fun. No matter the footwear, Claire is a woman who gets things done. I’m so excited to be doing it a second time. Plus Chris Pratt is here every day doing his spontaneous dance parties — what’s better than that?”

February 10, 2017 — “Interview Magazine: Bryce Dallas Howard”

“I’ve never, ever, in my entire life, been upset at a casting choice. I started taping my dad’s auditions when I was 11, when he was auditioning actors for one of his movies. I would see, over and over again, that there wasn’t just one actor for the role. It was really clear that there were a lot of people who could play a character really well, and it would always come down to something kind of weird and non-obvious as to why a person was cast. If you’re not right, you’re not right, but that’s okay.”

February 7, 2017 — “Inside the World of Bryce Dallas Howard”

“I am going… to be staying in New York for a couple of weeks for work. It’s okay though because it always seems like a holiday.

I am loving… my kids and hubby. I miss them! They’re in LA and I was looking at pictures of all of them. When you’re away, after a full nights rest, you miss your kids but when you’re at home and getting no sleep it’s a different story.

I am reading… Unsubscribe: How to Kill Email Anxiety, Avoid Distractions, and Get Real Work Done by Jocelyn Glei. She’s the founder of 99u.com and it’s a small, quick book about how to manage emails and our relationship to them. It’s so needed in my life and it’s so fantastic.”

February 5, 2017 — “Bryce Dallas Howard glad Matthew McConaughey was heavier and balding in new movie”

“It’s interesting because I have played characters who are completely the opposite of me and I have played characters that like could be my cousin  –  Claire in Jurassic World could be my cousin. Hilly Holbrook from The Help – I like to think I am nothing like her! My family is from the Deep South and Oklahoma, so I had seen these characters and relationship and knew that kind of a couple. It was really wonderful for me to play someone who had a mindset that was very different from mine and to just understand what it was – like the bond that was between them.”

January 29, 2017 — “Bryce Dallas Howard: The Everywoman’s Red Carpet Icon”

“It’s a dress that I ordered late last year from Nordstrom,” Howard told Vanity Fair, via phone from Los Angeles earlier this month, “and I wasn’t sure exactly what I was necessarily going to use it for.” She was waiting for the right event, and Sunday’s ceremony, where she is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television for Black Mirror, was it. She paid $308. “I’ve done more press in the last few years than I’ve done in my entire career,” Howard said, “and it has been so relaxing, and so fun, and so empowering.”

January 27, 2017 — “Bryce Dallas Howard talks ‘Gold,’ NYU and high-heel backlash”

I hear you’ve got plans to return to NYU to finish your degree.
“Well, it’s something that I’ve been chipping away at for far too long, but really enjoying myself. I’ll finish it up by actually being able to attend classes. You know, it’s not the most straight forward way to do everything online.”

Any place you’re looking forward to going when you return to college life?
“Angelica Kitchen I’m really into. … And, I mean, I just like to hang out in the West Village, mostly.”

Regarding the “Jurassic World” sequel, there’s whispers the heels will be coming off for your character, Claire, this time.
“Honestly? [Because of the high-heel backlash in the 2015 film] now I want her to wear heels. Plus, I became such an expert at ankle exercises, you have no idea.”

January 25, 2017 — “Bryce Dallas Howard talks Jurassic World sequel, digging deep in Gold and her Matthew McConaughey teen crush”

Q: Why did you pick the Gold part?
A: It was interesting for me to get into this, because the mindset was different. I had just finished Jurassic World and Pete’s Dragon.

Q: Do you enjoy playing diametrically opposed roles?
A: I’ve been doing this the whole time I’ve been acting. In college (New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts), I’d go from edgy avant-garde to street theatre stuff. There would always be this darkness and then light.

Q: Are you preparing for Jurassic World 2 in London?
A: We’re figuring it out now. The kids are coming out for their breaks and during the summer.

January 25, 2017 — “Bryce Dallas Howard on developing her character in ‘Gold’ and growing up in Hollywood”

““There were two ways, really. One was through the hair and costumes and working with the costume designer and developing that instinct — this is her, this is not her — then looking in the mirror at the finished product. ‘Who are you? What would I think of that lady?’ And the other way, I watched Urban Cowboy with Debra Winger again, and I was just — the way she was, so present and alive and passionate, yet also, how dysfunctional and destructive their relationship was. I was like, ‘I think I know this couple. I think I can recognize this kind of partnership.’”

They were at various times in my young life — I was their project. They’re supportive girlfriends,” says Howard. “I had to accept that loungewear is not acceptable in all circumstances. It was more about having fun and figuring it out. When I was 20, all I wanted to do was look 38. Now, here I am, I’m almost 36 — yes, a blazer is going to always work! January 18, 2017 — “In My Library: Bryce Dallas Howard

Here’s what’s in her library:

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
A boy named Santiago has a dream about a treasure hidden in the Egyptian pyramids, and journeys to find it. It’s almost like Siddhartha’s journey, as he grows and learns lessons and falls in love and ultimately comes back to where he began, where the treasure was all along. This was the first book I bought multiple copies of. I gave one to my father for Christmas. He loved it!

Unsubscribe by Jocelyn K. Glei
This is basically a self-help book that helps you manage your addiction to e-mail. It’s stupid: If I hear from someone I care about, I angst about my e-mail back and not answer, but I’ll answer a stranger promptly! I’m always apologizing. This book helped show me you can really just say no.

The Swans of Fifth Avenue by Melanie Benjamin
This is a fictional but heavily researched account of the most powerful and glamorous society women in New York in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, women like Babe Paley, who were great friends with Truman Capote before he betrayed them. I heard about the swans as a teenager and became obsessed with them. I’ve optioned the book and want to turn it into a miniseries.

Just Kids by Patti Smith
Smith’s memoir is largely about her friendship with Robert Mapplethorpe, which started when they were teenagers in New York. My late teens were spent downtown with friends, and we went through a lot of ups and downs. This book is heartbreaking, warming and honest.

When I came to set, I saw Matthew [McConaughey] with his belly and the shaved head and the teeth. I was like, ‘Fantastic, we can go further. My hair can be curlier, the boobs can be bigger, I can wear gold lamé a little bit more.’ It was great to be able to go further with the character and costumes is a great way to express that.” Howard admitted there was one item she’d want to steal from Kay’s closet: a pair of high-waisted Levi jeans. “I wouldn’t have the courage to wear the bra, but I wish I did,” she added.

December 31, 2016 — “No Formula For Hollywood”
If you weren’t in the movie industry, what profession would you go for?
“This is an adjacent industry—writing. When I was thinking about what I should focus in on, writing was first before acting. I interned at Vanity Fair for a while and wanted to see the side of writing that was more commercial and financially sustainable other than being a novelist, which is very difficult in order to support a family, working freelance as a writer. So much of my 20s was about investigating, like … who am I, really, because I’m being put on the spot here to represent a version of myself, and I’m not prepared to do that at all. I’m prepared to be one on one with people, but other than that, I don’t get it. August 11, 2016 — “The Unignorable Bryce Dallas Howard”

Of the many lessons she gleaned from her own childhood spent on movie sets, Howard said that the most enduring is that not everyone finds success — which is why, when asked to name the moment in her career that has made her the happiest, Howard gleefully replied, “The fact that it’s happening at all!”

“In my mind I thought, Prepare yourself for a long haul here. Prepare for crippling disappointment, prepare for significant rejection. That’s what I was expecting. And there was that, but … it would always feel unexpected,” she continued, trying to find the words to articulate further. Despite early adversity, nepotism worries, rude comments about her appearance from tabloids, and reviews that range from glowing to glowering, things are working out for Bryce Dallas Howard — and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. “I know the statistics. I know the odds. I know how many great people are out there. … I am consistently surprised and delighted every time I get another job.”

August 11, 2016 — “Bryce Dallas Howard is ready to direct a feature film”

“I’ve directed a ton of short films and commercials and digital content and all that. But I’ve never directed a feature before. And I would love to! Growing up in a household with a director as a parent, I know kind of what the commitment is. It’s very different for a director than it is for an actor. For an actor it’s like maximum six months; for a director it’s minimum two years! So I’m a little more precious about that and kind of what the first one may be, but I would love the opportunity for sure.”

I went up to him and said, “i don’t know if you remember be but,” and Robert Redford responded with “BRYCE!” Sometimes when you do a movie with someone and I don’t know if I ever worked with an actor as iconic as Robert Redford but you have this experience with them that is a very human and regular experience but then when you see them in the context of everyone else its suddenly very intimating.”
